Mythical Bondage ?

The loss of sisterhood to the Bermuda Triangle of 'special bonds' is a much debated issue. Many argue that -along with Santa ,the tooth fairy and Bush's brain- it has never existed and rightly so, why is it that a higher level of care and consideration is expected when women relate to each other?

Is there really a need to act so shocked when women are ruthless or bitchy? Abu Ghraib, Baghram and Guantanamo have all proven that female soldiers can 'cruel it up', with the best of their male counterparts. Women being harsh to other women isn't misogynistic in the least, after all being good or bad is part of human nature and evil is hardly gender specific.

However, I must admit that every time a woman chooses to side with her 'gender' sister in a conflict situation or not hurt another woman because her heart is breaking, the Lochness monster of 'special bonds' briefly rears, its partially mythical head before it plunges into the murky depths once more .

Well written post dd, really enjoyed it. its good to see honest assessments and dissension against the defunct conventions of social norms that we are brain-washed with all out lives.

"Women being harsh to other women isn't misogynistic in the least, after all being good or bad is part of human nature and evil is hardly gender specific."

I particularly liked this part - because be they men or women, we are all but human and saying women cant do war and violence and such is like saying men dont cry and have emotion and all that crap.
There are propensities for certain behaviours and attitudes wired into us socially and genetically (such as a female being the nurturing mother and the man the hunter) that in some ways still hold.. but that is slowly slipping.

We are developing and evolving and genuine sisterhoods and brotherhoods are only the ones we build with a few, as a generality its a myth that occassionaly gets creedence because of a momentary decision based on circumstance, not cause it was 1st choice.

anyway, i tend to go off sometimes, sorry.
liked your blog, if you dont mind Id like to add it to my links list and drop by once in awhile.

we all carry within us both male and female hormones. Men have oestragen and women have testosterone . This is a biological fact. Misogyny , chauvinism , racism and by contrast generosity of spirit and the ability to look beyond conventional stereotypes is present in all. Our socialisation processess and life experiences will determine which will come to the fore and which will remain dormant - raz

Dude, Raz, Kimya & Aasia Thanx for the comments , its strange how we 'genderise' and expect everyone to fit those pre-concieved notions... I suppose changing mind-sets is a slow and person by person activity, as for saying it as it is- the old cliche goes..." The truth shall set you free"
