But off course people dont like being made to feel dumb or for not thinking or for not wanting to think. Why I find it so offensive in the Islamic World is that we as Muslims know. Not should, or could, but we know better. FGM is another story and I understand both sides of the argument but I still feel that it is an out of date practice with no practical application. What this has given rise to is the movement, and I kid you not, to ban male circumcision.

I dont think enough is known about FGM especially in sub-saharan africa because its seen as a central african or arab or west or east african practice, but the practice itself is merely a brick supporting the paradigm. namely that sexuality should be controlled.

if only people paid this much attention to how the managed money eh?

keep up the postsMy dartboardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13603583492413600085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2256308974913597184.post-71619182220321108312009-07-16T23:05:04.798+02:002009-07-16T23:05:04.798+02:00OH- I've been seeing a lot of the blurred line...OH- I've been seeing a lot of the blurred line between religion and tradition. Some of the customs are so ingrained in the culture that many find it difficult to differentiate between the two and many times will argue that a certain practice is religiously sanctioned when in fact it is just something that has been passed on generation to generation without question. This is certainly not exclusive to the Islamic world but it is more stark there. I agree with you that it casts a spotlight on the societal deficiencies, particularly in terms of the control of sexuality of women. Another abhorrent customary act that passes as religious is FGM and I hope to tackle that topic in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time to comment.desert demonshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07944696794085869739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2256308974913597184.post-42841777368297133152009-07-16T16:35:58.066+02:002009-07-16T16:35:58.066+02:00I have been meaning to comment on this for days.
...I have been meaning to comment on this for days.

I think this post points out the glaring deficiencies within human society in general. Firstly the obsession with control the sexuality of a female and secondly how in spite of a religion's true nature, how much cultural and customary norms take precedence over logic and the real rules.

The real shame is how many people, men and women think this is "normal" and how many still believe that one group of people deserve preferential treatment.

I think the hard thing is being able to distinguish between a cultural practice which may or may not have no any Islamic basis.

Very enlightening post.

Thank you.My dartboardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13603583492413600085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2256308974913597184.post-54218208999207812452009-07-16T14:47:18.284+02:002009-07-16T14:47:18.284+02:00sid - sick patriarchal excuses. the woman gets rap...sid - sick patriarchal excuses. the woman gets rapes physically and then emotionally and mentally raped and re-raped by the injustice system

shabz - its so sad that the bits of botox the governments pump into legislation wear off so easily

Anon - I think thats remarkable actually.
